Day 15: A Script Based Off Another Work

Greetings My Friends, Be Strong, Do Not Waver.

Today is one I've really been looking forward to. Like, really been looking forward to. Looking forward to sharing actually, for a good long while. I said I wanted to mark hitting the halfway point with something special, and this is very dear to me.

Todays entry in the 30 Day Challenge is another slight cheat in that the script was already written - although I have gone through and edited and brushed up accordingly. Several times in fact. Although I do feel somewhere buried within is an F-Bomb that absolutely shouldn't be there - I think it was written in a flurry during one draft and if I have missed it - I can only apologise. It is most definitely not the tone I'm going for.

The first draft of the this script was written about four years ago - partly as a challenge for myself, partly as I had never worked on adaptation, and partly because I absolutely love the source material.

It's the first episode of a TV series. A TV series I would love to watch, and TV series very much for the Netflix generation and the now-grown-up fans of the original books. I'd love to see it be done in this way, treated seriously in a live action format that really explores the core themes that the original stories carried like the proverbial weight on it's heroes shoulders.  In fact, I've seen Tweets and Reddit AMA's where the co-author has pretty much said the same thing - a modern, streaming service style, slightly mature take. I'm not saying I've nailed it, I'm not saying it's perfect, I'm not saying it's even any good and quite frankly it could be utter trash! There's also bound to be things in here that fans of the series disagree with.

But I've written it first and foremost as a fan, and as a love-letter, and as a modernisation to try and do the stories justice. I know there's a lot of people out there clamouring for a decent Animorphs adaptation, and I hope if they stumble on this that they enjoy reading it and imagining it as much I did writing and imagining it.

So yeah, this is a pilot script for a potential Animorphs TV series.

For legal reasons I have to say I'm not affiliated with the authors or material in any way, nor do I own copyright. This is effectively fan fiction, like the fantastic modern retelling of the series that someone is doing on the depths of the internet - I'll try and find the link later as it's definitely worth a read. Like Harry Potter fan-fiction, but far less pornographic, this is just creative wish fulfillment.

Anyway, I really hope the fans out there enjoy it. I've wanted to show this for a long time. And if it is shit, then they'll be the first to say so!

This is Animorphs, Episode One: 'Crash'

P.S. This also not draft 2, more like draft 8 - I just stupidly failed to update the title page.

P.P.S here’s the cool retelling I was talking about - not sure who’s responsible but here is the Link: https://m.fanfiction.net/s/12650303/1/Animorphs-Reboot-01-The-Fallen
