Day 17: A Script Written With Someone Else

Megazord Power-up!

Writers Unite!

That's right writing sports fans, today's challenge was a co-writing project!

Wait, what?

Yeah...to try and work on a new script in a day with another person is a pretty hard ask. The co-ordination, the last-minute proposal, not to mention getting permission if you already have a co-written project in the electronic drawer (the tenuous straw I was contemplating grasping at). Fortunately I had a brainwave a few days ahead of this nightmare task- an idea prompted by the very script you are about to read.

In a fortuitous set of circumstances a friend of mine is also embarking on the challenge - although a somewhat less experienced writer, and by his own admission with a slightly rusty grasp of technique and form, William is, thankfully an ideas man and has been producing some wonderful little pieces this month.

You can read about his own journey here:

It was when I read his Day 12 Challenge Conkers that I had my crafty idea.

Why not do a writers exchange programme? William takes one of my scripts, I take one of his and see what each of us can do with the others work. Selfishly for me, it was an excuse to get my hands on his wonderful script and give it a little spit and polish, and hopefully elevate it to a slightly smoother read. I cannot take any more credit than that, Conkers is a wonderful idea with such a clear sense of identity and tone that to think I could add anything of  any significant worth would be incredibly arrogant. The piece is all Williams, through and through.

Thankfully, as he pretty much stole and idea of mine anyway, he was open to the idea.

The resulting collaboration is below, please enjoy Conkers.
